"Speaking with the facts" rather than saying..."

Danny Griffiths
Vice President, Human Resources Nissan Africa, Middle East, India and Europe
We have a saying at Nissan : "speaking with the facts rather than saying, I think..."

People appreciate the no nonsense, no hierarchy, speak with the facts, get on with it way of doing things.
The second is no glass ceilings. There are no invisible barriers to your progress. In many organizations, if you haven't been to the right schools, you have no hope of reaching a senior position. That doesn't exist at Nissan. In fact it's exactly the opposite.

Take for example our SVP of manufacturing and supply chain - he started on the production line, as did many other senior people at Nissan.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Nissan's talents management policy

Employees are expected to build their own career paths and identify the new skills and experience they need to acquire. Managers are there to support and guide their training and development. The human resources department is there to provide managers and employees with career ideas and orientations, while ensuring that Nissan has a rich pool of talent at its disposal. That is why Nissan has a very active talent management program that aims to attract, develop and retain talent.

Nissan encourages employees to explore vertical and lateral moves within the company. Employees are expected to be cross-functional and willing to work both at headquarters and in the field. All employees can expect to take on new roles, work on new projects and move to new locations. By acquiring this kind of experience, employees prepare themselves for promotion.

TRAINING

One of the five tenets of the Nissan Way is :

Learner : Be passionate. Learn from every opportunity; create a learning company.

To make this a reality, Nissan has a flexible and tailored approach to career development that helps identify the best opportunities for you to obtain new skills, and broaden your experience. Based on your interest and aptitude, your program may include coaching, training and mentoring.

Training can take many forms, from formal classroom learning to learn-by-doing initiatives. All employees are expected to participate in training and acquire new skills in their field of expertise and in other functions.
